1. Pele (Brazil)
Scorer of an incredible 1,281 goals in his career in 1,363
games. He gets the nod because of his record over 21 years
and his three World Cup victories with Brazil, one achieved
when he was still a teenager. A true legend and it's no
surprise he is known as 'The King of Football."
2. Lionel Messi (Argentina)
A prolific goalscorer with Barcelona and looks fresh from winning
another Champions League winners medal against Juventus
Amazing ball
control that leaves jaws dropping wherever he plays, but fell short at the Second Successive Finals in the just concluded Copa America where he lost to Chile on penalties Hasn't
always performed so well for Argentina though and still
looking for that first World Cup winners medal.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
Averages more than a goal a game for Real Madrid and has
already scored more than 50 goals in a season on five
occasions. Has 52 goals in 119 games for Portugal but didn't
really set the 2014 World Cup alive mainly because of playing through injury. A hard working and determined footballer who seems to beat the Records He Set every year.
4. Diego Maradona (Argentina)
A controversial figure both on and off the field but hugely
talented and should have achieved more than he did. He
broke the world transfer record on two occasions and
played for Barcelona, Napoli and Sevilla in Europe but never
dominated as Messi does for Barcelona. You had to hand it
to him when he won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986.
5.Alfred Di Stefano (Argentina, Colombia and Spain)
While Barcelona and Lionel Messi look to dominate the
Champions League, Di Stefano did just that in the 1950s
helping Real Madrid to win five European Cups in a row
scoring in five finals including a hat-trick. Injury stopped him
appearing for Spain in the World Cup Finals.
6. Franz Beckenbauer (West Germany)
The ultimate defender and has been hugely successful as a
manager too. Der Kaiser won the World Cup in 1974 and
then managed them to victory sixteen years later. Also won
three consecutive European Cups in the 1970s and scored
nearly 100 goals in his career.
7. Johann Cyruff (Holland)
Helped revolutionise the game in the 1970s with his total
football, winning the Ballon D'or three times and so nearly
winning the World Cup in 1974. Enjoyed great success in the
European Cup with Ajax and later played for and managed
Barcelona.
8. Ferenc Puskas (Hungary and Spain)
While Lionel Messi attempts to win another Champions
League wtih Barcelona and is evens with Coral to score
anytime in the game, Puskas won three European Cups with
Real Madrid. He was part of the famous Hungary team of the
1950s winning the 1952 Olympics and losing in the 1954
World Cup final. Puskas played in that game despite having
a hairline fracture of an ankle scoring once and having a
goal disallowed. In over 600 games he just failed to average
a goal a game.
9. Zinedine Zidane (France)
Any team would have wanted Zidane in their midfield. He
won the World Cup with France and the Champions League with Real Madrid. Also a scorer of Crucial goals for club and country. Even getting sent off in the 2006 World
Cup Final hasn't tarnished his image too much.
10. Eusebio (Portugal)
Scored 317 goals in 301 games for Benfica and 41 goals in 64
appearances for Portugal. Geoff Hurst may have hit a hat-
trick in the 1966 World Cup Final but Eusebio won the
Golden Boot with nine goals including four against North
Korea.
