Although no case of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) remains in Nigeria, the government has gotten N8.7 million to help further its activties against EVD.
The funding came from the Australian Government, which announced Thursday that it has contributed the sum to the Nigeria Ebola Virus Emergency Appeal launched on August 11 by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to help the country.
The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Jonathan Richardson in a statement said that the funds would be used to improve training in epidemic control techniques for Red Cross volunteers. The donation will also assist in the purchase of vital person protection equipment for healthworkers, as well spread good messages on health education and hygiene promotion across Nigeria.
The funds, according to the Australian High Commission, was from the country’s Direct Aid Programme, from which $7 million had already been commited to the fight against Ebola in West Africa.
